A third meeting with a conference rival awaits the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (5-16) in their postseason opener tonight. The Mount Pleasant Panthers (12-9) will host the Demons in the opener of the Class 4A Region 6 tournament.

This marks the second meeting in a week for the teams. Friday, Washington suffered a 49-37 loss to Mount Pleasant. The Demons jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first eight minutes. Mount Pleasant outscored Washington the final three-quarters, including 23-10 in the fourth. Washington’s Sarah Nacos leads the team and ranks third in the Southeast Conference with 278 points scored. Brooke Stout tops the Demons with 155 rebounds, the third-highest mark in the league.

Three Mount Pleasant players have scored more than 200 points this season, led by Maddie Williamson with 247 points. Kalynn Batey poured in 224 points while Sarah Moffett added 221. Moffett ranks second in the conference with 162 rebounds. Mount Pleasant defeated Washington, 48-35, on January 6.

Tonight’s winner will advance to the regional semifinals against the No.1 Marion Indians (20-1) Saturday in Marion.
