After qualifying the team for the state dual tournament on Tuesday, several Washington wrestlers will battle today for a spot in the individual tournament. Thirteen Washington wrestlers placed in the top two of last week’s sectional tournament to advance to the district tournament at Fairfield High School.

Seven Washington wrestlers won the sectional championship in their weight division. They include Walker Ikerd (106), Kyle Anderson (126), Andrew Waite (138), Trey Van Weelden (152), Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160), Logan Escher (170) and Karlton Skubal (195). Garrett Ikerd (113), Dillon Sanders (120), Austin Hazelett (145), Colin Murphy (182), Tanner Murphy (220), and Mitchell Huisenga (285) advance to districts as the runners-up in their weight class.

Washington will face wrestlers from Benton Community, Clear Creek Amana, Columbus-Winfield-Mount Union, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Fairfield, Keokuk, Mid-Prairie, Solon, West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville, and Williamsburg for a pair of spots in next week’s Iowa State Individual Wrestling tournament.
