Another Washington wrestling season will end at Wells Fargo Arena in the state dual tournament. As heard live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the No. 6 Washington Demon wrestling team (28-1) hosted wrestlers from Albia (22-6), Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (28-4), and Williamsburg (21-5) in the regional dual tournament Tuesday. Washington added two more dual wins to their total.

The Demons opened the tournament with a 57-21 victory over the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets. Washington scored six pinfalls, one major decision, a decision and two forfeits. Washington’s Alex Latcham (132; 36), Andrew Waite (138; :35), Logan Escher (170; 2:56), Karlton Skubal (195; 3:31), Tanner Murphy (220; :25), and Mitchell Huisenga (285; :47) pinned their opponents. Eddyville-Bllakesburg-Fremont got their points on one decision and three forfeits.

Williamsburg defeated Albia in the other semifinal to set up a rematch against Washington. The Demons, who had their only loss this season to Williamsburg on January 26 (31-24), grinded out a 36-24 victory. Washington posted two pins, three major decisions, two decisions, and forfeit. Escher (170; 0:50) and Murphy (220; 4:28) notched pinfall victories for the Demons. Williamsburg scored on three decisions, one pinfall, one tiebreaker, and one forfeit. The Demons took the lead early, but then fell behind in points before sealing their trip to state with a pin by Escher.

The Washington wrestling team clinched their second straight trip to the state dual tournament next Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Demons received the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 Atlantic/CAM. First matches are set for 9 a.m. Listen to live coverage of the state dual tournament on KCII.
