Another season of Cornell College Rams baseball (0-2) got underway Sunday afternoon at Ash Park in Mount Vernon. The Rams, the preseason favorite to the win the Midwest Conference South Division, dropped a non-conference doubleheader against the Augsburg Eagles (2-4). The Eagles won game one, 7-6, and game two, 11-6.

Washington graduates TJ Rausch and Walker Breard were the Rams’ corner infielders in both games. Rausch, the Rams’ third baseman, collected three hits in nine at-bats. He scored two runs in Cornell’s game one loss. Breard, Cornell’s starting first baseman, recorded two hits in seven at-bats. He drove in one run in game one and scored a pair in game two.

Lone Tree graduate Andy Dodson took the mound as the Rams’ starting pitcher in game one. He allowed four earned runs in five innings pitched. He surrendered seven hits, walked four batters, and struck out three. He ended up registering a no decision.

Cornell returns to the diamond next week when the Rams travel to central Florida for six games in the RussMatt Invitational. The Rams open the trip on March 11 with a contest against St. Scholastica, which won 32 games a year ago.
