About two inches of snow fell in Washington since Sunday and residents are reminded to clear their sidewalks of any remaining snow and ice. Steve Donnolly, building and zoning official for the City of Washington, says the city’s ordinance is to keep people safe, as there are many pedestrians in Washington. Property owners and occupants have 24 hours once the snow has stopped or ice has formed to clear the sidewalks. Also, do not put snow from the sidewalks into the streets. If a sidewalk isn’t cleared, city staff may leave a reminder on the door for the residents to clean it. If it still isn’t cleaned after that, city staff can clear it and charge the property owner for the work.
