Farmer and author Jolene Brown of West Branch and Wendy Wintersteen, Iowa State University Dean of Agriculture, will be speaking in Washington Saturday. They are the speakers of the first Women in Ag Conference in Washington. Rebecca Vittetoe, a local field agronomist, says the theme is, “Cultivate connections. Plant your potential. Grow your future.” She adds it’s a chance for women to network.
Nancy Adrian, Washington County Extension Director, says, “Women have always had a strong role in agriculture, but it’s changed a lot in the last 100 years. And I think, as agriculture continues to grow and it’s such a huge business it’s really, really important for the farm partners to all have a really good working knowledge.” Adrian adds it should be a day to get invigorated and inspired ahead of spring planting.
The conference is being held Saturday at Dallmeyer Hall on the Washington County Fairgrounds. Registration is still open and is requested by the end of the day Friday, and cost is $25 per person or $15 for students. To register call the Washington County Extension Office at 653-4811.
