In 2015, two people in Iowa died due to lightning strikes. During this Severe Weather Awareness Week, Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk Counties Emergency Management Coordinator reminds people to be cautious with thunderstorms. He says lightning is in every thunderstorm and it’s dangerous, “There is no safe distance.” He advises to go inside any time there is a thunderstorm warning and you want to avoid going back outside until the storms pass, “Lightning can strike at any time and be deadly.” For more information about preparedness and severe weather listen to the Washington Page with Smith here.
