The culinary arts class at Iowa Mennonite School isn’t just a cooking class, and they’re showing that to the public by inviting them to attend their Cooking Creations Restaurant. The restaurant will be offered the mornings of March 8th, March 15th, and April 5th, and each will feature a different meal cooked by different head chefs from the class. Culinary Arts Teacher Diane Willems says in preparation for the restaurant, her students have been studying professional culinary procedures and everything involved with running a food enterprise.

Willems believes the program is a good precursor for life after high school, “It prepares students to enter the workforce, or to go on and major in culinary arts. They just learn a lot of management procedures and professional service: professional setting of the dining area, sanitation, special knifing skills, how to garnish things, how to make things look aesthetically good, and many more things.” The Cooking Creations Restaurants start at 8:30 a.m. each day, and reservations must be made ahead of time. The cost per meal is $8, and the proceeds support future endeavors of the IMS culinary arts class. For more information or to make reservations, call the IMS office at 656-2073.
