In the first two months of 2017 there were 38 traffic fatalities in Iowa. That’s a decrease of five during the same time last year. Last year there were 403 traffic fatalities in Iowa, 83 more people than 2015. Sixty of the 2016 fatalities were from motorcycle wrecks. Of the fatalities so far this year, 13 were not wearing a seatbelt and seven were either on a motorcycle or a pedestrian. One fatal accident occurred Tuesday in Johnson County, when a Ford Taurus hit a semi-truck head on. The weekend’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies and warm temperatures, motorists are reminded to look for motorcycles on the roads and always look both ways at stop and yield signs at intersections.
