Fifty people have died this flu season with influenza-associated cases in Iowa, a jump up from 34 last week. According to the Iowa Influenza Surveillance Network, flu activity remains high and widespread in Iowa. There were 112 influenza-related hospitalizations in the state last week. The most common flu strain confirmed by the State Hygienic Laboratory is influenza A with 74 cases. Schools are still experiencing student absences due to illness, with 32 schools reporting 10% or greater absence. Schools with that high rate of absence due to illness include two in Washington County, two in Henry County and one in Jefferson County.
