January unemployment rates in Iowa have been released and the two counties with the highest unemployment rates the first month of 2017 were Allamakee and Clayton at 6.9%. The state’s rate of unemployment dropped from 3.5% in December to 3.3% in January, with about 56,600 people unemployed. Washington County’s unemployment rate increased from 3.0% to 4.0%. Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk and Louisa Counties all had increases in unemployment during the same time frame.
