The Kalona Historical Society will be hosting a special traveling exhibit called “German Iowa and the Global Midwest.” It will run from March 29th through April 10th, and will show important facets of German Iowa history, including immigration, communities, brewing, and politics. Historical Village Director Nancy Roth says the exhibit comes from the University of Iowa, and she believes it will be an interesting educational opportunity for the area, given Kalona’s German heritage.

On April 4th at 6 p.m., the historical society, along with the Iowa Mennonite Museum and Archives, will present a special event. Roth explains, “We are going to come together to not only allow people to see the exhibit that is traveling, but try to incorporate in the Kalona German history as a part of that. So we’re going to have kind of a panel and open discussion with anybody that comes, just to talk about our heritage and our history.” “German Iowa and the Global Midwest” will be open during normal Historical Village hours. Roth says there will be no charge if people would like to just see the exhibit, and free will donations will be accepted for the special event.
