The Coe College softball team opened the season with a pair of wins over ranked schools last week, moving them into this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll.

The Kohawks enter this week’s edition of the NFCA poll at No. 14. The Kohawks received a jump in the polls by beating No. 14 St. Thomas 4-2 and No. 9 St. Catherine 4-3.

In Coe’s win over St. Thomas the Kohawks scored all four of their tallies in the third inning. Former Highland Huskie Paige Wieland had a key bunt single to load the bases in the rally. So far this year, Wieland is hitting .429 with an .857 slugging percentage with three hits in seven plate appearances, two runs scored, a double and a triple.

In the Kohawks win over St. Catherine, former Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk Mallory McArtor scored the tying run in the fifth. So far this year, McArtor is one for six at the plate with a double, a run scored and a walk.

The Kohawks will next be in action Saturday in a tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
