Area farmers are coming together to help ranchers in Kansas as they clean up after devastating wildfires burnt homes, killed cattle, and claimed lives last week. Carol Horning and Megan Coakley took donations of fencing materials, feed, and milk replacement to Kansas last week and are gathering items to take Friday afternoon. Coakley explained it started last week when she saw friends who live Kansas posting on Facebook about the devastation. She then called Horning and the two were able to round up supplies, which Horning helped deliver over the weekend. Horning said her husband had hay and her son has a trucking company, so they chipped in to get the donations to those who need it in Kansas.

Horning said supplies are limited in Kansas as the items are in high demand, “After we got there we realized they need everything.” She adds it weighs heavily coming from a farming community, “They have so many cattle that they’ve lost, but the cattle that are still there and they have no food supply for them for miles and miles around. And they have calves that the cows died, and these little calves need to eat.”

They’re collecting hay, fencing materials new and used, milk replacement and mineral for cows. Vision Ag is a drop off location for materials, or contact Horning at 653-2480.
