If you ask someone what’s special about Riverside, Iowa, if they’re a Star Trek fan they’ll tell you it’s the future birthplace of Captain James Tiberius Kirk. Saturday, the city will hold a birthday party for its most famous future resident, and everyone’s invited. According to the marker in Riverside honoring him, Kirk will be born March 22nd, 2228, so the city is throwing a party 211 years ahead of time this Saturday. It will be held all day at Murphy’s Bar and Grill in Riverside, which was dubbed “The future conception place of James T. Kirk” by the bar’s owner in 1985.

Ken McCracken from the Voyage Home Museum says the annual birthday party is a fun way to get everyone in the Trek spirit, “We bring the ship down, and Romulan Ale is usually served at a certain time, and some music, and cake and ice cream. A full city-wide birthday party, is basically what it is.” McCracken says they might give a call to William Shattner, who played Kirk in the original series and movies and was also born March 22nd, to wish him and his character a happy birthday. There is no cover charge to attend the party, though people will have to pay for food and drinks as normal.
