It was a positive start to the final track and field season for Sigourney senior Avery Moore. The Savages boys’ track team took part in the 2017 South Iowa Cedar League Indoor meet Monday at Grinnell College. The annual event is an exhibition meet. Moore placed first in two sprints and one field event.

Moore placed first in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. His 200 time of 23.26 seconds bested the field by less than two-tenths of a second. His quarter-mile time of 51.22 seconds was a second-and-a-half faster than the rest of the conference. Both results are the fastest recorded in Class 1A so far this spring.

Moore topped the league’s long jump competition as well. His top leap of 20’6.5″ was nearly 11 inches better than the field and is the third-best result in Class 1A.

The Sigourney Savages boys’ track team is scheduled to begin their outdoor season Monday in Packwood, taking part in the Ruritan Relays.
