The reigning Class 1A state long jump champion is back for his senior season at Lone Tree. Jovonte Squiers is one of eight returners for the Lions boys’ track team.

Squiers’ program-best leap of 22′4.75″ topped the field by two-and-a-half inches last May in Des Moines. Squiers qualified for the 107th annual Drake Relays’ long jump last April, taking eighth place with a jump of 21′8″. He was also a member of Lone Tree’s state qualifying shuttle hurdle relay. The crew of graduate Caleb Christian, junior Brock Smith, senior Niko Gosnell, and Squiers placed 15th with a time of 1:02.23.

The Lone Tree Lions boys’ track team opens their season Friday at the Central College Indoor Meet in Pella.
