Seven juveniles were involved in a fight in Washington Wednesday and one faces assault charges. According to the Washington County Communications Office, the fight was called in at 7:54 a.m. at the Washington Middle School. Six juveniles will be charged with disorderly conduct. One of those six is also being charged with assault and theft. Southeast Iowa Transport took one juvenile to Eldora. Law enforcement reports listed six students as expelled, but Washington Middle School principal Curt Mayer verified for KCII News that they are suspended.

Mayer stated, “Some students were involved in behavior before school that is not aligned with what we expect from our students. District staff reacted appropriately and law enforcement were called. At Washington Middle school it is our top priority to provide a safe and positive environment for all students each and every day and I am proud of all of our students, but occasionally students make choices that don’t align with our expectations. We work with those students to make it a learning experience.”
