The Washington County Communications Center had staff presented the Team Telecommunicator of the Year Award for their work during a fatal house fire. Assistant Supervisor Teresa Todd and Telecommunicator Isaak Kleese were presented the award at the Iowa APCO Spring Conference and Awards ceremony in Altoona. Supervisor Cara Sorrells says they were recognized for their exceptional handling and dedication of the fatal fire. Retired Lt. Joe Torrillo of the the FDNY, a survivor who was buried twice under the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11th, 2001, presented the award.
Sorrells adds, Todd has received this award twice, as she also was recognized in 2001 with then Telecommunicator Amy Christensen for their handling of a lawn mower accident involving a child. Washington County Communications has won the award three times; Sandy Lovetinsky also won the award in 2010.
