Women involved in agriculture or students of agriculture studies are invited to attend the first Women in Ag Conference in Washington. The conference is being coordinated by Nancy Adrian, Washington County Extension Director, and Rebecca Vittetoe, a local field agronomist. Vittetoe says what the theme of the conference is, “Cultivate connections. Plant your potential. Grow your future.” She adds it’s a chance for women to network. Speakers include farmer and author Jolene Brown of West Branch and Iowa State University Dean of Agriculture Wendy Wintersteen.

Adrian shares why she feels the conference is needed, “Women have always had a strong role in agriculture, but it’s changed a lot in the last 100 years. And I think, as agriculture continues to grow and it’s such a huge business it’s really, really important for the farm partners to all have a really good working knowledge.” Adrian adds it should be a day to get invigorated and inspired ahead of spring planting.

The Women in Agriculture conference will be held March 25th, registration is requested by March 17th. The cost is $25 per person, $15 for students and that includes lunch. For registration information click here.
