The West Fork Crooked Creek Watershed will be hosting a soil health informational meeting Tuesday, with a focus on educating local farmers on making their soil healthy and keeping it that way. The event will feature guest speaker Doug Peterson, who is the Iowa and Missouri Regional Soil Health Specialist. Watershed Coordinator John Rathbun says people who attend the meeting will be able to learn what it means to have healthy soil, and how that benefits crops, reduces inputs, and increases yields.

Rathbun believes the event will be a valuable networking tool, “I think the main thing with events like this is to get farmers and neighbors into the same room, and hopefully spark some discussion among each other. We have a really good population of conservation farmers in Washington County, and people that are maybe interested in asking questions, get them in the same room and hopefully expand that idea.” There is no cost for the event, and it will be held Tuesday from 1-4 p.m. at the West Chester Community Center.
