A Washington alum has registered innings for the University of Iowa baseball team (9-6) this season as a relief pitcher. The Hawkeyes enter the week winning nine of 15 games. Elijah Wood, a 2014 graduate of Washington, has recorded four innings out of the Iowa bullpen.

Wood made his Division I pitching debut against Northern Illinois University (3-12) on March 7, taking the mound for the fourth and fifth innings. He threw 31 pitches over the two innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three batters. He took a no-decision in a 12-8 victory. He pitched the eighth and ninth inning of Saturday’s 7-1 loss to the University of Bucknell Bison (6-5). Wood kept the Bison off the scoreboard, scattering three hits for a no-decision.

Wood spent his first two collegiate baseball seasons at Marshalltown Community College. He posted a record of 3-5 with a 4.66 earned run average in 11 starts as a sophomore.

The University of Iowa baseball team canceled tonight’s game against Iowa Wesleyan University (6-5). The Hawkeyes will make a trip to Manhattan, KS, Friday for three games against the Kansas State University Wildcats (12-4).
