Area boys and girls track teams face off tonight at Mid-Prairie in the Hawk Co-ed relays. Teams participating in the meet include the host Golden Hawks, Washington boys, Iowa Mennonite School boys, Sigourney girls, Lone Tree girls, and the boys and girls for Highland and Columbus.

The Mid-Prairie boys track team looks for continued success from last week where they won their host meet on Thursday with six event champions. Levi Duwa continues to impress as a thrower grabbing both the discus and shot put title. His season best shot throw of 57’9’’ is good enough for third in the state for class 2A. After a busy last week, Washington continues to climb event leaderboards in the Southeast Conference. Caleb Bex is currently second in the conference in the 110 hurdles with a personal best time of 15.33 seconds. A barrage of relay teams also find themselves second in the conference including the 4×100, shuttle hurdle relay, 4×200, sprint medley, and distance medley teams.

Other area schools in attendance include IMS boys who last were in action last week at Lone Tree. Highlighting the action for IMS was Logan Thomas who took fifth in the 800 meter run and Adrian Gonzales who placed fifth in the 1600m run. The Highland Huskies come into the meet led by Bill Burton and Trey Lasek who are both fresh off third place finishes in the long and high jump last week at Mid-Prairie. The 4x800m relay team leads Columbus Community tonight having placed fifth at the Indian Relays last week.

For the girls, Mid-Prairie was last in action Thursday night in Tipton where they placed fourth overall as a team. Anna and Marie Hostetler continue to go neck and neck in events including a one, two finish in the 1500m run with Anna edging Marie by six seconds while grabbing the 3000m title. Anna currently has the best time in 2A for the 1500m with a best time of 4:43.22 seconds and sister Marie has the 3000m lead with a run of 10:03.20 seconds. Sigourney comes into the night led by Autumn Barthelman who is first in class 1A in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds and second in the 100m with a time of 12.77 seconds.

For Lone Tree, Highland, and Columbus this is another Super Conference showdown. The Lions’ Emily Feldman is currently fourth in the conference in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:21:77 seconds. Highland’s top performers include Kelsey Hora, who is second in the conference in the 400 hurdles with a best time of 1:04.15 seconds and Emily Yahnke is third in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet. Shania Boyd leads the Wildcats as she is first in the conference in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.77 seconds and second in the 100m dash with a best time of 13.26 seconds.

Action gets started at 5 p.m. tonight at Mid-Prairie High School.
