Columbus Community’s Shania Boyd signed with Mount Mercy University on Wednesday to play basketball.

The multi-sport standout is fresh off her 1st team All Super-conference year that led the Wildcats to an 11-11 record. Boyd paced the Wildcats offensively recording 19.1 points per game and led the team in steals with 92. She leaves Columbus having put her mark in the record books. Boyd graduates as the all-time leader in made free throws for a season with 123 and made free throws in a career with 257. While her offensive abilities are apparent, Head Coach for the Mustangs Micha Mims noted her defensive intensity is what attracted the school to recruit her. Mims states, “Her quickness and lateral movement is very fun to watch and will fit well into our program.” Boyd finished her high school career with 220 steals, good enough for second all-time in Columbus’ history.

Boyd looks to help the Mount Mercy squad who went 13-18 overall this past season and lost eight players to graduation.
