Former Washington baseball standout and current Cornell Ram Walker Breard last week was selected the Midwest Conference Hitter of the Week.

Breard, who plays first base and outfield, has paced the Rams (9-13) offensively through the first half of the season by leading the team in RBI with 23, home runs with six, and a batting average of .380 through 22 games. Breard turned some heads last week by posting a .458 batting average in six games and also collecting his 100th career RBI, being only the third Ram to accomplish that feat. Having started as a freshman, the junior Breard recently just tied the career home run record of 26 in just three years of play. This award is just one of many Breard has accomplished since joining the Rams, including a first team All-Midwest Conference South Division selection a year ago, and Cornell’s freshman and sophomore male athlete of the year.

Breard’s next shot at breaking the home run record is Thursday night as Cornell hosts Luther College in Mount Vernon.
