One Washington High School FFA member will be competing at the state Future Farmers of America convention in Ames. Morgan Brinning received a gold rating for Public Speaking at the district competition last month in Muscatine. Her speech is about how genetically modified organisms are positive. She shares she decided on that topic when going to get groceries with her mother one day and realized how many non-GMO products are available, “People don’t realize what a GMO is, so that really just sparked my attention on informing the public about what a GMO is and how it is actually safe for people.” Brinning shared her speech with KCII News during the Agriculture Magazine in March.

The state FFA convention is held April 9-11th at Iowa State University.
