Volunteers serve on a variety of boards, committees and commissions in cities to help work and direct projects. The City of Washington has a few openings and they’re looking for volunteers to fill those seats. Mayor Sandra Johnson says lately the change from an elected park board to an appointed commission has garnered attention, but it is far from the only one in the Washington. She says that they “do the day to day tasks that help the city set their priorities or administer their programs. So every year we have some seats available.” Some of the commissions include the library board of trustees, the planning and zoning commission, the board of adjustment, the forestry commission, a historical preservation commission, and the cable television commission.

Johnson encourages anyone interested to apply, as they’re looking for a variety of perspectives across generations and work to achieve a gender balance. Those interested in volunteering or getting more information should visit the City’s website or go to City Hall.
