The boys and girls track teams of Columbus, Highland, Winfield-Mt. Union, and WACO participated in the Demon Relays Thursday night in Washington.

For the girls teams, Highland placed sixth overall with a total of 44 points. The Huskies’ Bailey Harmston highlighted the action with a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 4’8”. Emily Yahnke grabbed third in the long jump amassing a jump of 15’2”. Columbus Community placed seventh overall at the relays led by Shania Boyd who placed second in the 400 meter hurdles and 100 meter hurdles, as well as a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. Other notables from the relay include a third place finish for the WACO shuttle hurdle relay team consisting of Kasey Sutton, Clara Schmitz, Kiana Miller, and Laney Graber. Winfield-Mt. Union 4×800 meter relay team took third place consisting of Mary Guillen, Pearl Krieger-Coble, Whitney Vantiger, and Cecilia Hemsworth.

In the boys division, WACO finished fifth overall with a total of 38 points. Colton Horak paced the Warriors with a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.48. Horak also was a part of the third place 4×200 meter relay team, other members include Calvin Battle, Ellijay McGohan, and Cornell Hulme. Columbus Community grabbed seventh overall with the help of a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash by freshman Jaime Villegas. Other notable finishes from the relays include Highland’s 4×100 meter relay team winning the event. That team consisted of Logan Dutton, Logan Harbison, Bradley Rodgers, and Trey Lasek. Winfield-Mt. Union took third in that same event consisting of Bryant Holtkamp, Carter Hinkle, Collin Hinkle, and John Day.

The Highland Huskies will next be in action Thursday with the boys heading to Mid-Prairie and the girls to Pekin. Columbus and W-MU boys head to Wapello on Tuesday while the girls for both schools head to Fort Madison. WACO’s boys and girls will next be in action on Monday at Lone Tree.
