Cottonwood United Methodist Church in Wayland is having a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for their little free library this Saturday. This library is part of the initiative started by former Iowa Conference Bishop Julius Trimble called “Change a Child’s Story.” The goal of this initiative is to give one million books and read one million hours to children in poverty by 2017. Children will able to take a book, free of charge, and return it at the little free library located outside the church at anytime of day.

Cottonwood Pastor Nancy Sutherland talks about little free libraries, “The object of the little libraries is to have books accessible to children and to adults who are wanting to read and not having a library card.”

Sutherland says it was her husband David’s idea to build this library because of the limited hours of the Wayland Library located inside city hall.

Cottonwood’s little free library was designed by church member Tim McConnell, as a replica of the Cottonwood church. The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on April 22nd at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in Wayland with refreshments provided.
