Three years. 2014. On the surface, it doesn’t seem like much time.

When you compare it to a four year high school career you realize just how long it is. On a cold, windy night in Fort Madison, the Washington Demon boys soccer team turned a road trip into a business trip, ending their three year conference match losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Bloodhounds.

Like anything that’s worth doing, this wasn’t easy. The Demons fell behind early when Brody Rung knocked one into the back of the goal, giving Fort Madison a 1-0 lead that they took into the half. Down just one goal in the second half, Washington’s Kyle Anderson turned a cross from Abdullah Talal into the equalizer 15 minutes in.

With 25 minutes to play in a tight game it would be logical for Washington to think back on the times before, the close losses, the missed chances. This time, the Demons didn’t wait for opportunity to knock, they found his door, and they kicked it in. In the last gasps of the game John Dillon connected with Caleb Suchan near midfield. Suchan navigated the Bloodhound defense with a crafty, athletic run to the 18 line. He launched a rocket shot to the back of the net for the game winner with 10 seconds remaining in the contest, sending the Demons into pandemonium, and leaving the Hounds scratching their heads.

Washington is now 3-3 on the year, Fort Madison falls to 3-4.
