Eighty-four area veterans are traveling to Washington, D.C., next week on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight #27. Of the veterans, four were in World War II, 28 in the Korean War, and 52 are from the Vietnam era. They will be visiting the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam memorials and Arlington National Cemetery. The public is invited to welcome home the veterans when they arrive at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 25th. Since 2009, the group has transported 2,225 veterans and their guardians to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.
