The Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team hosted the Washington Demons in Kalona Monday night.

IMS came away with a 6-2 non-conference win. Iowa Mennonite put pressure on the Washington defense early and an Anthony Villatoro direct kick was not cleared correctly by the Demon defense, resulting in an “own goal” and a 1-0 IMS lead. Washington found the equalizer just five minutes later when Caleb Suchan hit Abdullah Talal on a run and Talal did the rest, finding the back of the net to tie the game at one.

IMS jumped back in front with a late push before the half, scoring three times in the final portion of the first stanza. Jacob Boller slashed through the Washington defense to put IMS 2-1 on an assist from Isaiah Swantz and Seth Danga and Cole Ours each tallied once to give IMS a 4-1 lead at the break.

Out of the half, Washington controlled play but it was Iowa Mennonite who found the scoreboard, this time on a blast into the upper 90 from Villatoro to make it 5-1. John Dillon would pull the Demons within 5-2 with his second half goal but Cole Ours scored for the second time on the night for insurance and the win.

Thomas Zimmer had 11 saves in goal for the Demons. Blake Bontrager had five for IMS. Iowa Mennonite is now 3-1 overall. Washington falls to 2-3.
