KCII was recognized Saturday by the Iowa Broadcast News Association in Johnston.

In small market radio, the staff was awarded third place for Overall Excellence in Weather Coverage and best newscast. Zach Ulin received second place in sports coverage for Iowa Mennonite School’s silver anniversary. He and Sally Hart took third in sports play-by-play for coverage of the Columbus boys soccer team at the state tournament last June. Second place was also awarded to Hart for Farm and Agribusiness news for a story of poultry returning to the Washington County Fair. Hart also received second for in-depth series for “The Oldest Cinema in the World” a story featuring the State Theater and historian Michael Zahs. News assistant Joe Cerwinske received an honorable mention for the disincorporation of Mt. Union in the public affairs category.
