The Keota FFA Chapter attended the 89th annual Iowa FFA Leadership conference April 9 through the 11 at ISU’s Hilton Coliseum. The annual conference provided FFA students the opportunity to participate in career development event (CDE) competitions, be recognized for accomplishments in events over the past year, listen to speakers, meet college and business professionals, and develop leadership skills. Keota students Matthew Hyman and Kolton Strand served as chapter delegates for the Iowa FFA Association. Student Lexi Black received a gold rating for the Keota FFA Chapter Display board she created highlighting the chapter’s annual faculty breakfast. Freshman Joe Swanstrom also received a gold rating for another CDE, the Greenhand test. The chapter received gold and silver ratings in various other CDEs, and five members received the Iowa FFA Degree, which is the highest degree that can be bestowed upon a member by the Iowa FFA. During the conference the chapter members also participated in a service project with Meals from the Heartland, a non profit that packages meals for delivery to starving people in Iowa, the U.S., and globally.
