The legislature has proposed a cut to funding for victim services. According to State Senator Kevin Kinney there is a proposed cut to the Iowa Victim Assistance Grants of 22%. These grants help victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, and Kinney says such cuts could impact shelters and other services. He recommends contacting State Senator Mark Chelgren, chair of the Senate Justice Budget Subcommittee. The Iowa Radio News Network reports Republicans state federal funding will prevent cuts to services. The vote is anticipated to be held Monday.
