Mid Prairie school board is meeting tonight, with an agenda dominated by changes regarding the unanimous board decision two weeks ago to make two grade alike elementary schools at Wellman and Kalona and the Washington Township building becoming the home for the home school assistance program.

The tentative agenda designates time to address the transition changes, and time is also designated for presentations for the Fund for Academic Excellence and Fine Arts, Career, and Technical programs. The last meeting included a presentation on a proposal to offer Kirkwood culinary classes at Mid Prairie high school. There is nothing listed on this week’s agenda regarding the proposal, but board member Jim Hussey comments on the absence “It doesn’t appear that it will be discussed at this specific meeting. It’s been part of the longer term funding ever since the board, when we were developing plans for the bond issue and working to enhance that program, it’s been on the agenda. I mean, not the pending agenda but the overall program moving forward for the district so it was just an update at the last meeting, and over the weeks and months to come I’m sure we’ll hear about it.”

The school board meeting is at 7 p.m. tonight in the Central Administration Office Community Room in Wellman.
