On a cold blustery day at the Kalona Golf Course, 18 holes weren’t enough to decide the Golden Hawk Invitational Individual Champion.

After posting a pair of career best nine hole scores of 47 on the front and 42 on the back, Mid-Prairie junior Paige Slabaugh found herself in a one hole playoff for medalist honors, facing Alyssa Anderson of Wilton. Slabaugh’s demeanor never changed, overcoming the pressure and her opponent by one stroke with a double bogey to claim the title.

As a team the Hawks shot season best nine hole team rounds of 209 and 205 to finish in fourth place with a 414. Fairfield won the team title with a 398. Other top finishers for the Golden Hawks included Lindsey Palmer with a 102, Olivia Nisly and Abbi Patterson each with a 113, Kenzie Bontrager at 120 and Emma Mattes with a 122.

The Golden Hawks will next be in action Monday when they host the Wilton Beavers at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside.
