National Volunteer Week is observed this week as a time to recognize, support and thank volunteers for all organizations. Volunteers help many organizations by donating their time to further the efforts of non-profits. Ann Williams who volunteers in many capacities from 4-H and Extension duties to being a member of the Washington Iowa Betterment Foundation says volunteering is important in small towns, “There’s that old saying that volunteering is the rent that you pay to live in a small community, and I truly believe that.” She encourages people to get involved to make the community better, “I truly believe that you have to be involved to make that happen.” Many area organizations welcome volunteers with a variety of skills including PAWS and More, Washington County 4-H, Hospice of Washington County, and many more.
