The Washington boys and girls golf teams will host a meet tonight against Mid-Prairie and Columbus Community.

The Washington boys are fresh off an exciting season-opening win against Mt. Pleasant. On Thursday, both teams scored a 167 in the nine-hole meet and required two cardbacks to the number six player for the Demons to seize the win. Dalton Myers led the way for the Demons posting a meet best 38. Jacob Van Osdol came in second for the Demons with a 41 and Brock Sobaski rounded out the top three with a 43.

The Mid-Prairie boys team comes into the day having played three matches with a combined four-player average of 185. The Golden Hawks are led by Duncan McCain who just posted a career best 39 in their win against Louisa-Muscatine last week. Columbus opened up their season last night against Winfield-Mount Union.

Due to a cancellation last week this is the Demon girls’ first meet of the season. The two-time defending state champion Demons will be led by junior Sarah Nacos who is a two-time state champion herself. She looks to build off her 37 nine-hole average from a year ago. Other returners for the Demons are Carly Burlingame, Allison Vogel, and Megan Strabala. The Golden Hawks girls come into the meet with a 219 four-player average through two matches. Looking for the upset bid, Mid-Prairie will turn to Paige Slabaugh who is averaging a 51 in the young season. Columbus girls are led by their lone returner from a year ago Aubrey Duncan who recorded a 52 average last season.

Action gets started at 4 p.m. tonight at Washington Golf and Country Club.
