It is survive and advance time for girls’ golf as they kick off the opening round of regionals today. Area schools of Keota, Lone Tree, Winfield-Mt. Union, and Iowa Mennonite School face off in New London.

The Wolves are one of the early favorites to advance to the next round as they hold the second lowest nine-hole average of the seven participating teams with 215 strokes. Sophie Kongable leads the pack by being a potential meet medalist as her 46 average is second among all members. IMS has the capabilities to do some damage as they bring a 285 average led by Gretta Rempel with a 56. Other golfers to look out for today are the Eagles’ Jolee Walker who has a 57 season average and the Lions’ Shayna Burr has a 66.

The chance to move on to regional finals starts at 10a.m. today at the Deerwood Golf Course in New London.
