Tomorrow moms will be celebrated for Mother’s Day and if you don’t have a gift yet, there’s still a chance to pick one up.

Main Street Washington director Sarah Grunewaldt says there is a “robust retail environment” in Washington. Grunewaldt adds it helps the entire community when you shop at local stores, with about 72 cents of every $1 spent staying in the community when you shop locally, whereas if you shop in another community or online about 40 cents of that dollar comes back to the local area. That money goes to local wages, property taxes, and paying for public safety and schools.

Grunewaldt says she recently read a report looking at what mom’s really want and that while things are nice, an experience may be the way to go, “We have a great movie theater here in town. We have a great community theater and a new auditorium. All of which are putting shows on constantly, so why not take a stretch and maybe buy a gift certificate? Take your mom out to dinner, go to a movie, go to a show, or find a great gift from one of our retailers that she can use throughout the year and remember you by.” If you’re looking for a last minute gift, Grunewaldt encourages you to look at local options.
