The Keota City Council is taking action on an abandoned building.

The council held a special meeting on May 25 to discuss their next steps on the building located at 201 South Davis Street. Community members Julie Tinnes and Brett Romoser presented an abstract and deed to the property. City Attorney Scott Flynn took the abstract to be reviewed and updated, and took the deed to be recorded. Council member Scott Westendorf made a motion to accept the title of the property in lieu of an abandoned building action. City employee Kevin Slaubaugh then went over the process on how to handle the pests on the property. The process is said to take around two months and cost about $2000. Once that is finished all the structures will be taken down and taken to the landfill. A motion passed unanimously to take action on removing the pests. The city is giving all parties who have items on the property until the end of May 29 to have them removed.
