The Columbus Community boys’ and girls’ look to defend their home track as they host a seven-team meet tonight.

For the Columbus girls, this is the last tune up before Conference on Thursday as they look to creep up the Southeast Iowa Super Conference leaderboard. Shania Boyd leads the way for the Wildcats as she finds herself in the top five of the SEISC-North division in four events including the 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and long jump. The do-it-all distance runner Jenessa Carpenter, who has the best time for the team in four events is sixth in the conference for the 800m run with a time of 2:40.81.

Due to cancellations, the boys haven’t been in action for over a week. Their last meet on April 20 featured a well-rounded Wildcat team that saw 19 members contribute points on a night they got fourth overall. Cody Fox looks to build off of his third place finish in the discus with his personal best throw of 121 feet and a fourth place finish in the shot with a heave of 37’3’’. Tommy Pretz has posted the second longest jump in the conference with a leap of 19’8’’.

The meet gets started at 4:30 p.m. today at Columbus Community High School.
