The Washington Softball started up their season Monday as they split a double-header hosting Anamosa.

In game one, the Demons took care of business winning 12-0 in four innings. The Demons jumped on the Raiders early by scoring two in the first thanks to having a good combination of patience at the plate and timely hitting. Washington showed a keen eye at the plate as they racked up eight free passes that led to scoring in every inning. Jessie Bucholz led the charge offensively as she went 2for4 with a pair of singles. Sophomore Molly Sparks got off to a good start on the mound as she went four innings of scoreless ball for the Demons.

In game 2, the Raiders rebounded as they captured their first win of the season with a final tally of 5-4. Anamosa jumped on the Demons early, cashing in on three runs in the first inning off pitcher Alexa Mitchell. The Demons chipped away to tie the game in the fifth off of a RBI triple from Bucholz but it was not enough as Raiders managed a couple more runs to seal the win. The Raiders’ Ellie Tallman proved to cause havoc on the Demons as she went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI.

The Demons (1-1 overall) next will be on the diamond Wednesday as they travel to Columbus Community.
