The Washington baseball team finished off a perfect first week of the season by taking care of Fort Madison 8-3 and 16-1 in their doubleheader Friday.

In game one, the Demons (5-0) got things going in the first inning with a leadoff double by Michael Gier to start the game. After a walk to Ryan Loy, Zach Londberg brought in the first run of the game with a RBI single. A two RBI double by Collin Zear later in the inning made the score 3-0 after the first. The Demons broke things opened in the second after a booming grand slam by Londberg to give the Demons a comfortable 7-0 lead. The Demons later tacked on one more run with a Noah Enfield single and that is all Washington needed as they cruised to the 8-3 victory. Londberg finished game one going 2-for-4 with 5 RBI and had a productive outing on the bump going four innings giving up three runs in his first start of the season. Kole Hinrichsen looked impressive finishing off the game for the Demons going three innings of scoreless ball.

In game two it was much of the same for the Demons as the offense exploded for four runs in the first inning, anchored by a two RBI double by Aaron Vittetoe. That was more than enough for the pitching as Cale Hobschiedt had his best stuff cooking going four innings with nine strikeouts of scoreless ball. Chase McDole and Jacob Hall each had an inning of relief to cap off an impressive night all around. Offensively, Zear went 3-for-4 with two RBI that led the Demons to break out for 16 runs in the contest.

The Demons have scored an insane 59 runs in five games this year and look to keep that trend going Tuesday when they host Louisa-Muscatine.
