If you’re a high school student, or the parent of one, who wants to enroll in concurrent Kirkwood academy courses for the fall, tonight is the last chance to attend orientation.

The final orientation will provide students and parents information about the different academy options and how the process works along with high school schedules. The concurrent credit courses are free to students, who then earn both credit toward college and their high school diplomas. Kirkwood Washington Regional Center Director Tera Pickens says there is still room for students to sign up in the career and technical education academies, which include engineering, advanced manufacturing, welding and information technology. Pickens adds, “Really those are the type of academies, that’s the driving factor as to why we built this campus and we’re offering those programs. These are those great hands-on, lab focused classes that are really teaching students great skills that are marketable in today’s job industry. And the academy experiences are designed to go onto many career choice options.”

Students who are set to take classes at the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center have until Monday (5/15) to add academy classes or change their schedule for the fall semester.

Tonight’s orientation begins at 6 p.m. at the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center on Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Orientation attendance is mandatory.
