The City of Washington’s former library building sale has been finalized and now the council is proceeding with appointing a committee for the new fire station project. At last week’s special session of the council, City Administrator Brent Hinson announced the sale of the former library on East Main Street was official. The building was sold to Greiner Buildings Inc.

At tonight’s meeting, the council will consider creating a project committee. The committee will be working on developing plans for a new fire station, because the current building does not have enough space for the fire and police departments along with city hall and staff. The recommended appointments to the committee include council members Jaron Rosien and Brendan DeLong, along with Fire Chief Tom Wide, and Joe Redlinger, Mark Chenoweth, Greg Goodman, Kelsey Brown, Brent Hinson, Cara Sorrells, and Matt Miller.

The tentative timeline sets construction to begin in the summer of 2018 and end in 2019. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the Washington Public Library.
