The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team opens the regional tournament today when they make the trip to the Appanoose County Country Club, home of the Centerville Lady Reds.

The Golden Hawks enter postseason play ranked No. 16 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. The Hawks have a 425 team average per 18 holes, third best in the River Valley Conference and third best in this regional. Mid-Prairie is led by Paige Slabaugh with her 94 average per 18 holes, best in the River Valley Conference South. She is ranked No. 35 in the state.

Top team in the regional entering play is Centerville. The Lady Reds are ranked No. 3 in Class 3A. Emily Moorman and Madeline McDonald lead the way for the Reds, both averaging 85 strokes per nine holes. McDonald enters play today ranked No. 10 in the state, Moorman 12th. All six of Centerville’s varsity golfers rank in the top 60 in the state.

Just ahead of Mid-Prairie as well in team average is Burlington Notre Dame with their 412 per 18 holes. The Nikes are led by Lauryn Wagner and her 94 average per 18 holes. Other teams joining the regional today include Albia, Central Lee, Davis County, Eddyville and Mediapolis. The top two team scores and top five individual scores advance to the regional final tournament in Williamsburg Monday.
