The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team travels to Cedar Rapids tonight to battle the No. 5 ranked Xavier Saints in the Substate semifinal round of the class 2A boys soccer tournament.

Mid-Prairie advanced through round one of the playoffs with a 2-0 win on the road at Washington Monday. The Hawks had goals from Jason Tew and Ricky Vargas in the win. Mid-Prairie enters play at 7-5 on the season. For the year, they are led by Tew with 11 goals, his eight assists are also best on the team. In goal, Ryan Miller has the team lead with 25 saves.

Cedar Rapids Xavier enters tonight’s match with an overall record of 10-4. In their last match they beat Dubuque Hempstead 8-1. Thomas Bean and Luke Duball lead the Saints and the Missouri Valley Conference with 16 and 14 goals respectively. Duball’s 24 assists lead the Valley. Owen McCarron has 44 saves in goal for the Saints.

The winner of tonight’s match plays Saturday in the Substate final in Cedar Rapids against the winner of Keokuk and Mount Pleasant. Action begins at 5 p.m. this evening at Cedar Rapids Xavier High School.
