In their season opener Tuesday night, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team took advantage of opportunities to score a 13-1 win in five innings over the Keota Eagles on the road.

It was Keota who struck first, taking a 1-0 lead when Jacob Wickenkamp came in to score on a passed ball in the first. Mid-Prairie responded with 13 unanswered runs including four in the second, one in the third, a pair in the fourth and six runs in the fifth. The Golden Hawks batted all the way through the order in both the second and fifth innings. As a team Mid-Prairie finished with six hits on the night, but the Golden Hawks were aided by 14 walks given out by Keota pitching.

Mid-Prairie was led by Keaton Duwa, Braeden Nielsen and Karson Gingerich who each had a hit and drove in one. Wickencamp had one hit and scored a run for Keota, Austin Waterhouse had two hits for the Eagles. Jared Miller got the win on the mound for Mid-Prairie lasting four innings, allowing five hits, one run and striking out four. With the win, Mid-Prairie is 1-0 on the season as they prepare for West Liberty Thursday. Keota is now 1-1 on the year and will travel to Belle Plaine tonight.
